Plastic Recycling
For thousands of years people have done incredible things to the planet without really thinking about the consequences. It is only recently that people have come to realize that the planet does not always take kindly to some of the things we humans do to it. As ecological awareness spreads, more people are trying to find ways in which to reduce the way that our presence has an impact on the planet. Whether it is plastic recycling, cleaner energy sources or simply walking down to the corner shop instead of driving there are a number of ways that everyone can contribute to the welfare of the planet in the long run.
When it comes to trash human beings produce a whole lot more than all the animals on the planet put together. To make it worse not all our waste is as easily disposed of as the waste than animals make. Most of the things that we throw away are no biodegradables. That means that the waste can be broken down naturally with the help of bacteria or even other animals in a relatively short period of time. For example, a banana peel is biodegradable as it decomposes on its own due to the action of various bacteria. In time the peel is reduced to nothing and there is no sign that a banana peel ever existed on a patch of dirt. One of the reasons that so much attention is given to plastic recycling is because it is not biodegradable.
Unlike paper and cardboard, plastic can last for a long time. Plastic is a manmade substance that is not technically found naturally in the wild except in very rare instances. Even glass can be found naturally in places where lightning struck sand or where a very hot fire had burned. Since plastic can last for literal millennia before being destroyed, plastic recycling has become an important part of taking care of our planet. Not only does it protect the environment but by recycling the plastic that we use, we can also reduce the costs of other plastic products since new plastic does not have be made.
But humanity is quite ingenious as well. There is a new type of plastic that is said to be biodegradable. Or rather, if it is not completely biodegradable it is more biodegradable than the normal plastics that we have been using for a long time. But just because the plastic can be broken down with relative ease is no reason not to continue with plastic recycling. There are still many items that need to be made from the other types of plastic that we have discovered and they can still mess up the environment something fierce.
Whether it is with plastic recycling or finding some other way to protect the environment it is up to us to protect our planet. Mother Earth has taken enough knocks throughout the ages without us weighing her down with our trash. Keep the planet clean and green and make sure there is a future for everyone.
